A couple from Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving came and went way too fast, as usual.
We didn't get many photos this year...just a few.

Our heirloom turkey before the roasting...

and after.

I saw the sweet little turkey templates on Made by Joel so Woody cut out a bunch from cardboard and OM decorated them...

Then they wrote everyone's name on them and we set them on the plates as place cards.

O on his DS, Aleck on his iPhone and the girls reading a story on G'ma Ginger's Nook...oh the technology abounds.

And so does the love.
Can't wait 'til next year.

Before and After: creating space

This was Owen's work space as of yesterday.
We used the little red IKEA table as a desk and hung up some little buckets for his writing tools.

But this weekend Bart and Ginger brought up Woody's old desk so now he has a proper desk with drawers and a chair and an ergonomically sound little homework station.

Maya needed a desk though so we moved the red table into her room and now she has her little creating space too.

:)

Hope you have a spot for your own creations.

Thanks Bart and Ginger!!!

Halloween

Maya worked very hard on her pumpkin carving this year.
From start to finish she was very diligent in her task.

(Owen ran upstairs at the stench of the pumpkin guts:)

A good mother would have taken photos of the final product.
So, um, sorry, but Halloween came at a high-intensity grading period and there are no 'after' shots. :(

But here are some of them with their cousins in their costumes:
Skeleton, Ninja, Owl and Butterfly (in case it isn't clear).

chalice lighter and a bright red leaf

Last Sunday @ church Maya's kindergarten class lit the chalice at the beginning of the service.

These are two really bad photos of this incredibly sweet event.

Maya is wearing the pumpkin headband and striped sweater. In the first photo she's standing next to the little girl in the pink shirt in front.

In the second photo she's behind the little girl that just lit the chalice. She's kind of looking up at us.

(They played this Beethoven sonata during the offering. Such a doozer.)

I had the best run yesterday, probably ever.

It was cold and drizzling the whole time but I felt strong and fast and pain-free.

It's beautiful around here in Fall and running through the fallen leaves makes me happy.

As I was slowing down to a walk, a bright red leaf starting falling very slowly right in front of me and I immediately thought of my grandmother. I hadn't been thinking of her before that moment but then there she was.
Almost literally.

Hope you're finding joy and meaning in the sweet moments we're given.

before and after: haircuts

Ever since then we had been keeping Maya's hair short.
We all think it looks cute short and for me it's a thousand times easier to take care of.
She has very thin, very fine hair.

But, she decided to let it grow.
5 weeks into 2x/week swim classes I am over the long hair.

So we bobbed it again...

Ta Da!

We put a little bright pink in there too (by we I mean my hairdresser of 11 years, Kelli).

Next up, O.

Lookin' good guys!
