real quick

I've been a slacker blogger. My brain has been jam-packed with many, many things this past week or so. Anyway, we went to the zoo w/ AJ and Brook Friday and here are (just) a few photos.
We all saw an enormous sea lion go #2 right in front of us and I gag just thinking about it...really rank!
Other than that though it was teee-rific...

I'm tuckered but wanted to mention two things:

1. If you need a new salad dressing or, even if you don't, make this one:

your salad consumption will increase exponentially. it is the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas, the bomb. and don't get freaked out by the miso, it's a nice ingredient to have around. i agree with Deb @ SK that a small shallot is best (I used large as suggested once and couldn't eat it, my eyes watered and I was gasping for air). and, I also add sunflower seeds to my ensalada. I've made this weekly for the past several weeks and EVERY time I lick the bowl clean, scrumptious!

and,

2. if you need a book to read, try this one:

it's not quite as funny as Waiting for Birdy by Catherine Newman (http://www.amazon.com/Waiting-Birdy-Frantic-Neurotic-Growing/dp/0143034774/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1276493730&sr=1-1) but it's still hilarious (and also sadder than Newman's book), especially if you're a mama.

farmer's market

woooooo hoooooo! we finally had a reprieve from the downpours, just in time for saturday's farmer's market.
(unfortunately, it started raining last night and hasn't stopped :( )

but, we loved our hours in the sunshine with the Rhoads family...

color exploration

So Woody's been playing around with the color settings on our camera and here are some of the results...

OM's new dentist gave them some supplies to play dentist at home. I was their first patient...

This is a wall in Owen's classroom at school. All the kids made their faces and wrote their names.
I love looking at this in the morning...

butterflies...

Check out this sweet little butterfly pillow.

This adorable little blog is where I found it. So sweet. And I loved her color palette but my fabric store was out of neutrals so I went in the opposite direction and made it colorful.

I had a few random pillows in the linen closet so I pulled one out of obscurity, wrapped it in turquoise felt, and cut 16 butterflies out of the smaller pieces of felt...
pinned them on, sewed them on and...

voila! super sweet butterfly pillow.

Maya liked flapping the butterfly wings.
Afterwards, we packaged it up and sent it off to Grandma Hinson for her birthday. ♥♥

Mmmmmm!

If you and/or your kids need a quick cinnamon roll fix, I recommend these...

yum, yum, muy delicioso!

I also made some eggplant parmesan this weekend. Woody and I have been oooo-ing and ahhhh-ing over it for days; even in its leftover form it is scrumptious. Really, please make it. It's so good.

And (I know, super sad photo) here's Owen. Woody took this and I'm not sure what happened but I love it. You have to capture the sad moments too.
